Tío Tours breaks down a few exciting things happening in Madrid in June 2025

To all my loyal readers, I apologise for the tardiness of this blog post. 4 days into June and we're only just seeing this blog post. You caught me slacking. Anyway, it's not hot in Madrid, and as summer settles into Madrid, locals and visitors alike brace for the capital’s famously high temperatures. But don’t sweat it - Madrid in June isn’t just hot, it’s happening. From twilight museum nights to splash-worthy escapes, this month is packed with events and activities that’ll keep your calendar (and your body temperature) pleasantly full. Here’s how to stay cool while soaking up the best of Madrid in June 2025.

1 - Dive into Madrid’s Summer Pools

Madrid’s piscinas de verano (summer pools) are back in action, offering an ideal way to beat the heat without leaving the city. Scattered across various districts, these open-air municipal pools provide a refreshing oasis for all ages.

To access them, you’ll need to book your slot through the Madrid Móvil app. Reservations are required, and specific days can be booked no sooner than 48 hours in advance. Slots fill up fast, especially on weekends, so plan ahead. Popular choices include the pools at Casa de Campo (my local favourite, featuring two large pools) and Centro Deportivo Municipal Vicente del Bosque. Each has ample green space and snack kiosks, so you can easily spend a full, leisurely day poolside.

2 - Las Berceas Pools: Mountain Air & Crystal-Clear Water

Looking for a nature-infused escape? The Las Berceas Pools in the Sierra de Guadarrama offer stunning mountain views and cool, clear water. Located near the town of Cercedilla, these natural-style pools are surrounded by pine trees and scenic hiking trails.

Getting there is easy, despite being a fairly long journey.

There are two viable ways to get there:

1 - Take the C-9 Cercanías train to Cercedilla, then jump on the local number 1 bus until you reach Hospital La Fuenfría. From there it is probably about a 15 minute walk to reach the pools.

2 - Get to Moncloa interchange and take the 684 bus until you reach Cercedilla. Once again, take the number one bus until Hospital La Fuenfría. Again, it's another 15 minute walk from there.

While the official schedule has not yet been released for this summer as of the time of writing, the park should be very close to opening. Adult tickets cost €9 and the park is open from 10:00 to 20:00. Pack a picnic, bring plenty of sunscreen, and prepare for a full day of relaxation and stunning vistas.

3 - Aquopolis Water Park Opens 16 June

For thrill-seekers and families, Aquopolis Villanueva de la Cañada opens its gates on June 16, just in time to ride the wave of Madrid’s summer heat. One of Spain’s largest water parks, Aquopolis offers something for everyone - from high-speed slides and wave pools to kid-friendly splash zones.

Advance tickets are recommended and can be purchased online.

How to get there: The easiest method via public transport includes arriving at the Moncloa interchange, from which you will take the 627 bus. This bus will drop you almost perfectly at the front gates of the waterpark.

An adult ticket will range anywhere from around €20 to €37 depending on the day. The park is open between 08:00 and 20:00 Monday to Thursday, between 08:00 and 19:00 on Fridays, and between 10:00 and 18:00 on weekends.

Whether you want to scream down a slide or float lazily in a tube, Aquopolis has your perfect summer day covered.

4 - El Prado de Noche – A Cool Cultural Night Out

For something a little more sophisticated - but still chilled - don’t miss El Prado de Noche on June 7. This annual event transforms the Museo del Prado into a magical after-dark experience with extended hours and live DJ sets in the museum's outdoor spaces.

Admission is free, and it’s a unique opportunity to see the museum in a new light - literally. Enjoy world-class art, ambient beats, and Madrid’s balmy summer nights all in one unforgettable evening. I recommend you get there before the 20:30 starting time, as once the venue has reached capacity, no more admissions will be permitted. I also recommend you keep an eye out for a certain Tío lurking around this event. Wink Wink.

5 - Free City Tours: Discover Madrid at Dawn or Dusk

I'm super excited about this one! The City of Madrid's free walking tour programme, Pasea Madrid, is about to be in full swing. Led by expert guides, these tours explore historic neighborhoods, hidden corners, and architectural gems - all while the sun is low and the city is at its most photogenic.

Tours are free, yes FREE, but require advance booking through the official website: Pasea Madrid. They’re a great way to stay active while staying out of the midday sun. Obviously, most of these are run in Spanish, but there are some English tours available! The two that I have my eye on are the Civil War Bunker in the El Capricho Park, and the Alfonso XII Monument. Get out there and learn!

6 - Local Fiestas: Cool Evenings in the Barrios

Throughout June, Madrid’s barrios come alive with local fiestas - vibrant community celebrations that include live music, food stalls, games, and dancing. Look out for festivities in Coslada, Torrejón de Ardoz, and Paracuellos, where you’ll find a true local vibe and events that often stretch late into the evening when the air is cooler.

These are great opportunities to immerse yourself in local culture, sample traditional dishes, and enjoy fireworks, parades, and family-friendly entertainment.

June in Madrid might be hot, but it doesn’t have to slow you down. With sparkling pools, cultural nights, splashy day trips, and street fiestas filling the calendar, this city knows how to turn up the fun - and dial down the heat.

So grab your sunglasses, download the apps, and dive into a Madrid summer that’s as refreshing as it is unforgettable.

Oh, and don't forget, apply that sunscreen! I know I will be!
